What Is It?
The OAE Pivot feature helps users analyze and understand their estimation data by creating pivot table-like overviews of one or more projects, aggregating estimation data by groupings like work item, rate card, status, and more.
Why Do I Need It?
For simple projects, managing estimation with just totals at the work item, work item group, and project levels can be enough. But the more complex a project is, the more different ways you might need to see the data. So while a project’s Work Items tab provides totals of column values, both as a Totals row and in the Summary above the work item table, if you want to compare those totals to another project’s, or you want to total by other criteria, you’d have to look at each project in turn, and export the data into a spreadsheet, or switch between two tabs, or something else awkward.
The OAE Pivot feature solves that problem, and more generally, gives you the ability to group items by a certain criteria, like rate card, within one project or across multiple projects.
For example, if you’re a shipyard with returning customers, you might want to compare work item totals across similar jobs for that customer. You might want to compare the totals in each rate card. You might want to see estimation totals based on custom criteria, using work item custom properties. Or you might want to view your Math formulas with unique work item groupings, that can only be achieved with the flexible grouping capability in Pivot.
Available Groupings
The project’s Structure determines the columns, while the grouping you choose supplies the rows. Any Math formulas configured for the project will also show as columns, meaning your Pivot groupings will also show totals for those formulas.
Once you’ve chosen one or more projects, you can choose any of the following to group the data by:
- Project
- Estimator
- Rate card
- Status
- Work item
- Work item custom properties
Note the last item there – you can use custom properties to create your own groupings for custom pivot tables. And the OAE Pivot feature lets you use as many groupings as you want.
