In this Admin Guide, we cover OAE project copies – how to create them, label them, and save a snapshot of the original project.

Copying a Project

OAE project copies can be created from Project Home using the Copy Project icon in the upper right. This is particularly useful for Revisions, BAFOs (best-and-final-offer), or projects that are similar to a project that was previously estimated.

The Copy Project screen prompts you to:

  • Enter the new project’s Name.
  • Enter a Label for the new project.
  • Save a Snapshot of the current project (see the Project Snapshots section below).

Project Labels

Project labels appear on the Dashboard, on the project logo, and as a column in Project Search results. They provide a flexible way to distinguish or otherwise identify projects.

The "BAFO 1" project label is superimposed on the project's logo

Project labels can be added to an existing project in the project’s Settings, but you can also add one when you copy a project.

This is particularly useful for the Snapshot process, labeling the old and new version of the project to help users know which project version they are in.

Project Snapshots

Sometimes, like in the case of BAFOs, it’s useful to keep multiple versions of a project; Snapshots make that possible. OAE project copies let you create a Snapshot while copying a project. This moves the current/original project to Done, and adds links to both projects so each can be accessed from the other.

Once a Snapshot of a project is taken, the original project can only be navigated to via the new project. This ensures that your team is always working on the latest version of a project, while keeping the previous version available for reference.

When navigating to the old version, a red warning banner is displayed to users that they are not viewing the active version of the project.

When a new project is created by copying an existing one, links are added to both projects, showing which one replaced and which one was replaced.

These links appear in the Other Versions section of the project’s Summary tab, and in the Project Links section of the project’s Associations tab.
